The Statue of Liberty a global icon of United States of America is located in the New York city on Liberty Island welcoming visitors to the country who are travelling by ship.

The monument was gifted to the Americans by the France people as a sign of friendship between the two countries in the period of American Revolution in 1886 to commemorate century. Frederic  Auguste Bartholde was the main Architect of this sculpture and Gustave Eiffel was the Structural Engineer.

The height of this sculpture is 46 metres but accounts to 93 metres when pedestal is included. It is made of concrete and steel with thin copper sheeting.

It stands as a symbol of Americans freedom. The title of this statue is Liberty enlightening the world.The statue has a great importance.

The statue is a woman representing Goddess of freedom in fine attire standing with a torch in uplifted right hand and holding a tablet left hand.

There are seven spikes in the crown which stand for either seven continents or seas and the 25 windows exemplify the natural minerals on Earth.The torch in right hand represents enlightenment and the tablet in left hand is to spread the knowledge around the world.

The scenic beauty all around the statue on island with greenary serving as tourism site is fantastic.

Crazy Horse Memorial

The crazy horse monument in South Dakota onBlack Hills of United states of America is one of the most interesting places to visit.This monument is built in the honour of Crazy Horse a powerful warrior in America.

Korczak Ziolkowski was initiator of this mountain sculpture and even today his family is dedicated to this task to fulfill Ziolkowski’s dream.

It is being carved out of mountain.The carving was initiated in the year 1948crazy-horse-5 and the work is still in progress. The credit of the largest monument in the world that is being carved out of mountain in progress goes to the Crazy Horse Memorial.

The mission of this monument is to honour the North America Indians culture, tradition and heritage.

The head of crazy horse completed in the year 1998 is much bigger than each of the four heads of presidents of America carved at Mt.Rushmore in Black Hills.

The dimensions of this memorial are planned to be 641 feet in length and 563 feet in height.

Millions of visitors acts as guests every year to view this monument.Apart from carving many special events like art shows, laser shows and night blasts in nights, exhibition of cowboy skills( rodeo ) are held.It also includes Indian Museum of North America, a visitor center, bronze showroom, gift shops, conference and education center,t heatres and much more to view and enjoy.

The prodigious Niagara Waterfalls

The prominent stupendous waterfalls in the world is the amazing  ”Niagara Falls”.It is situated on the the river Niagara occupying a border between  Canada of Ontario and New York of United States.

Though these falls are not so high ( 52 m )they are the “extremely widest”.The best known natural waterfall in the world serving as a tourist destination is the Niagara falls.The beauty of this waterfall cannot be expressed in words. It’s  thrilling to view these voluminous falls.Every minute six million cubic feet water falls on the crestline.

Around 10000 years ago Wisconsin Glaciations had created the present Niagara Falls.

It is composed of three falls :-

Horseshoe Falls are on the Canada side.

American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are on the American side.

The panoramic view of these falls is awesome and pleasant.It is not just enough to say that these falls are known for its great beauty with unique attractive features as they serve as a major source of hydro electric power in the states of America.

Gateway Of India

Gateway of India is one of the familiar monuments to be visited in Mumbai, India. It is located near the natural harbour in southern part of Mumbai.

The architecture includes a huge arch 26 metres in height with a central dome of15 metres in diameter.It is  built of reinforced concrete and yellow basalt with four small towers over it and complex lattice work all over the monument. Hindu Muslim architectural styles are used in the construction of this building and stands as symbol of union of Islamic and Hindu religions. The spacious area all around this building comprises street vendors,snake players and many more attracting the tourists.

This sculpture “commemorates the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to the city Bombay”. The construction began in the year 1920 and completed in 1924. The architect of this magnificent sculpture was “George Wittet” and built at the time of British rule in India by them  as a gift to the Indians. It was inaugurated by the Viceroy,Earl of Reading on 4th December in 1924.

The first ceremony of great importance that took place at this monument was  the sail of last British troops,for England from India.

The view in the early mornings ,at sun set time making different impressions on the building or at night with pleasant water around is awesome.

Wonderful Neuschwanstein Castle

A royal palace, Neuschwanstein castle is situated on rugged hill in Bavaria state of Germany. It is one of the prominent and most photographic building of Germany . The landscape that surrounds this charming castle with  gardens and mountains is beautiful.

The castle was built by fairytale “king Ludwig II” in the honour of renowned composer “Richard Wagner”. New Hohenschwangau Castle was the original name and later renamed after Ludwig’s death. Literally the word Neushwanstein means New Swan Stone one of the characters of Wagner’s “the Swan Knight”.

The chief designers of this palace were Christian Jank,Eduard Riedel and George Dollmann responsible for the extremely wonderful interior and exterior architecture. The construction began in 1869 and finished in 1892.Many rooms in the castle represents Wagner’s characters.

The entire palace is built of limestone slabs with supporting brick walls.The marvelous  interior designing includes decorations of wooden work in bed room, singers hall in entire fourth floor, fantastic throne room, pleasant paintings in gallery, amazing chandeliers throughout the palace, modernized water supply system, highly facilitated kitchen representing the royalty makes the visitors admire the people involved in this tremendous art work built for a single person the king.

Another interesting point about this is that the King resided only 11 nights in this palace and Wagner never visited as he passed away before its completion. But remained as a gift for all of us as worth seeing site.

A fascinating tourist destination in Germany pulling millions of visitors is the Neuschwanstein Castle.

World’s tallest Brick and Stone Minaret

Do you know where is the tallest brick and stone Minaret in the world? The place you had to reach is Delhi,India and visit Qutub Minar.

Minaret is a tall tower with onion shaped domes at the top.The height of this tower is 72.5 metres or 238 feet.The base of the tower is  14.3 mts while the top is 2.75 metres in diameter.

The tower was built by the Mughal emperors in stages.The construction began in 1193 and completed in  1386.It is a six storied tall structure with 379 steps.The first one or the base was constructed by Muslim ruler Qutub -ud-din-Aibak. Later Iltutmish successor of Qutub was responsible for the next three stories and fifth and final stories were constructed by Firuz Shah Tughluq.The tower is built of red sandstone with carvings and verses from Holy book of Muslims, the Quran representing Indo-Islamic style of architecture.It is named after the initiator of this minaret Qutub-ud-din-Aibak as Qutub Minar.

There are different stories related for building this monument. Few consider that it was built as a pride of Mughal’s Victory in ruling the country. For some  as a watch tower while others believe as a minaret to call the people for prayers to mosque.

The other attractions are :-

Quwwatul-Islam Mosque near the tower and was the first mosque built quli-maosquein India.It is believed that this mosque was built in Islamic style with the remains of materials and masonry from Jain and Hindu temples in Qutb Complex.

The Iron Pilllar in the complex is the world’s familiar metallurgical aspect built of 98% molded iron and is free from rust nearly about 1600 years. It is believed that if anyone want to make their desire come true then stand with your back towards the pillar with arms around it.

Qutub Complex is considered as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is the famous tourist site where Qutub Minar is present.

Petronas Towers : Malaysia’s Attraction

The credit of being one among in the list of the tallest structures in the world goes to Petronas Twin Towers constructed in Kuala Lumpur city of Malaysia. These towers are known by other names like Twin Towers or Petronas Towers.

One has to wonder by the height of this two tall building about 452 metres or 1483 feet. It comprises of 88 floors with floor area of 395000 sq.mts. The construction began in 1992 and completed in 1998.

The architect of these towers is “Cesar Pelli” ,an American and the structural Engineer is “Thornton Tomasetti”. The materials used for construction are strong reinforced concrete , steel and glass frontage with Islamic motif arts.

Tower 1 houses Petronas , oil and gas company.Petronas is the short name for Petrolium National Berhard.

Tower 2 houses number of multinational companies.

Sky Bridge : Towers 1 and 2 are connected by a two storied bridge named 800px-skybridgeas Sky Bridge.It is on 41st and 42nd floors of the two towers 58 metres in length and 170 mts above the base. One can access higher levels through this where visitors can change elevators.only 41st floor is allowed for visitors and 42nd floor is for private tenants.In case of emergency to shift from one tower to another it acts as a safe path.

The another important aspect of these towers is the modernized lift system with great features and service building for the operation of towers.

suria2At the base of the towers is huge shopping complex of 140,000 sq.mts called Suria KLCC ( suria means sunshine ) comprising modern and luxurious shops, restaurants, cafes , 12 screen cinema, an art gallery ,Science Discovery centre  over  6 floors and an orchestra Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra at Petronas Philharmonic hall.

The other feature below the towers is large 17 acres KLCC Park , a public 800px-klcc_park_fountain_nightpark with greenery all around showing the importance of nature to mankind. The features of this park are Lake symphony with pools and fountains, playground for children , jogging track and footpath.

Petronas towers appeared in many scenes in films serving as shooting spot and also in games.

Twin Towers of Malaysia are the major attraction and  a familiar tourist destination drawing millions of vistors from all over the world.

Historical Mughal Monument : Red Fort

It is also known as Delhi Fort or Lal Qila in Hindi. As it was built of red sand stone the name Red Fort was thus given. One can proudly say that largest monument in old Delhi is Red Fort.

Though originally built by Rajput king Raja Anangpal later fantastically expanded y mughal emperors Shah Jahan and Aurangazeb.An interesting point to note about this fort is that it is along the side of Yamuna river, 2 kms in length with height about 18 metres and served as a palace in ancient times for the Mughals.

The construction began in 1638 and finished in 1648.The architecture , art and ornamental work which reflects Indian, European and Persian styles is superb.

The attractions of the fort are :-

It has two gates of importance - Lahore gate which serves as the main entrance to the fort and the Delhi Gate.

Lahore gate is also known as Chatta Chowk which leads to shopping stalls called “Meena Bazaar” .

Drum house or Naubat khana beyond the Lahore gate, heart of fort is the place where musicians used to play instruments on occasions. It contained Elephant Gate where visitors got down from their elephants.

Hall of Public Audience or Diwan-i-Aam served as the courtyard richly ornamented where the king addresses the audience.

Hall of Private Audience or Diwan-i-Khas is site where private meetings  were held by Emperor. The hall made of marble with attractive Peacock throne studded with gems and rubies but carried away by Nadir shah. One can believe by the statement given by Amir Khusro that “if there was a paradise on Earth then it is here” which reminds the glory of Mughals.

Palace of Colors or Rang mahal is another feature of this fort with a spectacular fountain of lotus shape hall made of marble, with decorative ceiling and paintings with central pool constructed for the royal women.

Mumtaz Mahal is now a museum where thousands of visitors view the gallery.

Life Bestowing Garden or Hayat Bakshah Bagh which lies north of fort is a formal large garden.

Pearl Mosque or Moti Masjid is a three domed small structure built of marble used by Aurangzeb.

The other attractions are the Royal Baths or Hammams , Shah Burj a private area for Shah Jahan with marvelous architecture of floral patterns, multi colored stones and white marble.

Visit and admire the marvelous ancient historical monument , the Red Fort.

Waterfalls are natural site seeing places on the Earth wherever they are and in what size they are. We enjoy the water, the cool breeze that surrounds us, rattling sound of waters, and the scenic beauty all around.

One such famous, largest and highest waterfall in the world is Victoria Falls in South Africa. This waterfall is situated on the Zambezi River which flows between the countries Zimbabwe and Zambia in the southern part of Africa. Another name for this falls is Mosi -oa-Tunya , the locals use which literally means the smoke that thunders.

David Livingstone , a Scottish explorer was known to be the first person who enjoyed and viewed this amazing waterfall in 1855 and named as Victoria falls in the honour of “Queen Victoria”.

This is the largest chain of waterfalls with height about 108 metres and width about 1708 metres.

National parks around this fall are Victoria National park ( 5683 acres ) and Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park ( 16,309 acres ) with rich wild life.

The islands here are Boruka or Cataract Island and Livingstone Island.

The principal long gorges of Victoria falls are first gorge, second gorge ,third gorge, fourth gorge, fifth gorge , Songwe and Batoka  gorges with water always running through them.

The primary streams from east of Zambia  to the west of Zimbabwe are Eastern Cataract , Highest Rainbow Falls , Main Falls and the Devils Cataract or Leaping water.

Devil’s Armchair at the edge of these falls is naturally formed pool for swimming.

A bridge was constructed which initiated tourism with millions of visitors every year. The activities apart from watching the beauty of this wonderful falls are white water rafting in the gorges, kayaking, bungy jumping, thrilling flights across falls, horse riding and fishing.

One cannot express this just in words .So, one must view practically to experience the natural beauty of these falls.Visit the spectacular Victoria Falls to have great thrill and joy.
