10 Common Travel Scams to Be Aware of

travel scams

travel scamsScams overseas are less in number compared to your home town, though it`s less you have to face loads of problems as you`re new to the place, and you can`t expect anyone to help you. So it`s recommended by all government officials not to fall for common travel scams.

Few common travel scams pop out of my head, so I`m sharing here, hope this can help you in your next vacation.

1. Travel Club Scam

Most travel clubs work on ‘pay now for future travel’ scheme, when you approach them you`re asked to enroll for membership for a thousand and few more next time, but when you try to book tickets through them they don`t book saying location ticket is not free, and ask you to pay more to get it for you.

It`s best to avoid such travel clubs, not all but few can really help you out, it`s better to check every thing about travel club before joining them.

2. Bird Poop

This travel scam mostly will happen when you reach your destination. Surprisingly you see bird shit on your shoulder, immediately a person appears to clean it, when you start conversation with him, taking this as chance your valuable things will be stolen. Another way can be the person can take you to wash room and demand money for the work, and the amount he demands will be more than what he actually did.

3. Newspaper attack

A group of children surround you asking to buy newspaper, they literally jump on you, before you able to find what actually happening their pick pocket team gets your purse. When you try to get out of this group of children you find you lost your money.

4. Security scare

Obviously this happens over airports, you may encounter with fake security officers who ask you to show passport and visa when you put forward what they asked they try to show some wring information in your passport, when they see you`re frightened they ask you money for letting you go.

Check officer`s Id, before you reveal your details.

5. Fake monks

Common in south Asia, a group of monks or saints appear before your asking for alms, they`re fake and you`re not going to get anything by giving money to those monks.

Real monk never asks for alms, you need to go him to give alms.

6. Airport taxis

Soon you`re out of airport you`re surrounded by a group of taxis, select taxi which is reliable I know it`s tough to judge in few minutes but try to get a rough idea about them by seeing their taxi, way they dress. And ask for the cost before you get into taxi, else they unnecessarily charge you extra fare.

7. Timeshares

An extremely genial well dressed young man approaches with a scratchie card, and ask you to scratch, you`re offered to win a prize or money. When you scratch and see money/prize. He very politely ask you to accompany him to their office to get the prize. If you still believe him then you need to check your senses. Anything can happen, he can ask for money to take prize, or he can take away your valuable things.

8. Bar/Coffee Scam

Main target here will be male travelers, few good looking girls approach you ask for help, then they ask for a drink, they take directly to a group of people where they charge you under false teasing.

9. Hotel Scams

A person calling himself hotel agent approaches you as soon as you come out of airport. And offer you big discounts, but after reaching hotel you`re charged for extra things which you can get as a complement from other hotels. Try be your own guide.

10. Vehicle Scam

You hired some bike or car to enjoy the ride with your partner but you find that the vehicle you hired is out of it`s condition and you may face lots of problems with it. So before you hire trial once to check if everything is ok, and follow traffic rules.
