india gate1 200x300 All India War MemorialAmong monuments in India, India Gate acting as a landmark of New Delhi has great importance. It was constructed in the year 1921 by the ruler of Connaught Place, brought out in 1931 and later dedicated to the country by Lord Irwin. Originally called as All India War Memorial.

The credit of designing this 42 mts tall structure is given to Sir Edwin Lutyens. Many names were engraved on this monument and the word INDIA is inscribed on both sides of the arch. The view of structure in the late evenings is the best time. Glorious lawns and fountains encircling the archway monument give a pleasant look to the visitors. It is one of the tourism spots in India to enjoy the vacations.

The “Immortal Soldiers Lamp”( Amar Jawaan Jyothi) which always burns reminds us of the martyrs. It was constructed as in remembrance of the great soldiers who sacrificed their lives in wars for the sake of the country.
