Hawa Mahal , a royal palace is in Jaipur known to be the pink city of Rajasthan, India. This palace was built in the year 1799 by Maharaj Sawai Pratap Singh ,devotee of God Krishna and Lal Chand Usta was the great architect of this wonderful facade.

In Hindi language Hawa means wind and mahal means palace. As a whole Hawa mahal is “Palace of Winds”. It is a five storied pyramid shape building comprising 953 niches and number of small complex windows with grills and lattice work circulating air through out the palace keeping it cool in even in hot seasons.This wind makes the palace extremely pleasant and airy. Hence, the name is thus given.
For some it resembles a beehive and for others a crown of Lord Krishna , God of Hindus. The architecture represents both Rajputs, Hindu and Islamic style with floral patterns, archs, balconies, chatris, pillars,stone work , motifs, carvings etc.. The height of this historical monument is fifty feet which stands on a podium and in thickness less than a foot. In contrast to the exterior extra ordinary architecture, the interior work is simple. It is a combination of red and pink stone with outline white borders and motifs. One can access one level to another level only by ramps and no steps. The upper levels consists of single rooms while the others are spacious. Today this façade comprises an Archaeological Museum.
One enters this building through rear side. It is believed that this was built for the royal women to watch every day life activities of the local people in streets without they are being seen by the outsiders.
Viewing the palace in the early morning golden sun light is the best time providing fantastic sight for the visitors. The architecture of this building is so difficult for any person to describe in words. Hence, visit to experience the real beauty of this palace.
