Longmen Caves

Around 316-907 B.C. during the reign of various dynasty kings these statues were carved from stones. The artistic intelligence exhibited by the workers in doing such a great task can be seen in these caves.

Great Wall of China

When we here the word China the monument that comes to one’s mind is The Great Wall of China which is one of the greatest seven wonders of the world. This Great Wall just like a gigantic dragon constructed over deserts, plateaus ,mountains and grasslands extends about  5,500 miles in length from east to west of China.

In  Chinese language  “Wan-Li Qang-Qeng” means 10,000-Li ( about 5000 km) Long Wall .

Thickness    :      4.5 – 9 meters (15 – 30 feet)                                                               Height           :      7.5 meters       (25 feet)

The engineering and construction of this monument is marvelous.

The Great Wall of China was built by the first emperor Qin Shi Huangdi of China who belongs to the Qin (Chin) Dynasty around 2,000 years ago (221 B.C – 206 B.C.)with 1200 miles of construction. This is not a single wall but combination of several regional walls united to form a great wall.

The wall was constructed to protect the country against foreign nomadic invasions.Earlier it was built of stones ,earth and wood and later during reign of the Ming Dynasty the construction materials were replaced by long lasting bricks , tiles ,lime and stones in many areas of the wall.It was further stretched to 4000 miles with addition of cannons and watch towers with regular intervals which were used to store house troops,weapons and send singnals of smoke.

Barracks and administrative centres are situated at larger intervals.Signal towers built on high points along wall were unique with stairways and entries that confused attackers.Communication among the army units along the wall is of great importance. The process of generating weapons are displayed on the wall.

The only artificial and man made construction that is even visible from space is the great Great Wall of China with naked eye.

Jiuzhaigou in literal means  ”Nine Village Valley”.This name is thus given as it is surrounded by nine Tibetan villages on its length.

Jiuzhaigou is consists of 3 valleys formatted  in alphabet “Y” shape.

1. The Rize Valley

2. Zechawa valley

3. Shuzheng valley

The first two run from the south and join at the middle of the site forming the third one running  north to the mouth of the valley.

The Rize valley consists of  :-

• Primeval forest is a conserved woodland.
• Swan lake famous for swans and ducks.
• Grass Lake rich for thick vegetation.
• Arrow Bamboo Lake is a shallow lake.
• Panda Lake has blue and green colour patterns.
• Five Flower lake is a multi color lake with very old fallen tree trunks.
• Mirror Lake showing gorgeous  reflections of the environment around it.Pearl waterfall here is amazing .

The Zechava valley consists of. :-

• Long Lake known for its length and depth in Jiuzhaigou.
• Five colored pond highly colored underwater landscape.
• Seasonal lake varies from empty to full depending on the seasons.

The Shuzheng Valley consists of :-

• Nuorilang Lakes  and Shuzheng Lakes are stepped series of ribbon lakes formed by glaciers.
• Sleeping Dragon Lake is one whose form has been like a Dragon lying down.
• Reed Lake is reed-covered marshland with a clear aqua brook travelling in a zigzag path.

Thus Jiuzhaigou in China is a scenic place to view.
