The Himalayas or Himalaya Range is a gift of nature to mankind .This range comprises longest chain of mountains and highest peaks in the world.

Length  :  1490 miles (2400 km)

Width   :   200 to 250 miles (320 to 400 km)

The other names for Himalayas are Himachal,Himavat,Himadri and Himvan.In Sanskrit language Himalay meanshome of snow “.This system comprising of subranges stretches all around 6 countries in Asian continent namely  India , Tibet , Bhutan , Nepal , China and Afghanisthan.

 The Tethys , huge shallow sea has great importance in the formation of Himalayas. It had two landmasses northside Angaraland and southside Gondwana land.This sea region started to get compressed and clasped up.Over the next few million years due to extreme compressional forces the depositaries in Tethys sea acquired the present shape of Himalayas.

The higher Himalayan mountains are always covered with snow.The Himalayan system includes worlds highest peaks (in order over 8000 m -6000 m in elevation )Mt.Everest , k2 , Kanchenjanga , Lhotse , Makulu , Cho Oyu , Daulagiri , Manaslu , Nanga Parvat , Annapurna and many others.

Famous glaciers like Siachen ( second longest glacier in world) , Gangotri , Yamunotri and Khumbu Glacier etc store fresh water.It comprises  hundreds of lakes.Few of them are Pangong Tso , Gurudogmar , Tsnogmo and Tilicho.Many rivers Ganga,Brahmaputra,Indus,Yamuna have their origin and others are part of this ranges.

This is also famous for beautiful valleys like kashmir , kulu , kangra , Khatmandu etc. and hill stations which attract people from all over the world.It is covered with rich forests with wide varieties of flora and fauna yield wood and other products to the countries around it. 

It  is a wonderful place for adventures like trekking , fishing , gliding , jungle safari , jeep safari motorbike safari , mountain biking /cycling , homalayan Motor Ralleying , river rafting , rock climbing and skiing.

Himalayas is the best tourism place in the world to view the natural beauty of the planet Earth where it meets the sky.
